Every year hundreds of nonprofits in Monterey County participate in the year-end giving campaign — Monterey County Gives! With today being #GivingTuesday, our team wanted to highlight nonprofits who are doing amazing work for causes we care about.
Tina Medina – American Red Cross of the Central Coast is the non-profit of choice for me. I have seen disasters affect families and it is nice to know that the American Red Cross is there to assist in times of need. I also have taken CPR life-saving courses from them in the past.
Athena Morris – My chosen nonprofit is Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley. I had the opportunity to volunteer for a Thanksgiving dinner delivery and witnessed the incredible impact that this organization has on the community. Our elderly population faces numerous challenges, and Meals on Wheels provides vital assistance to them.
Tony Munozledo – I appreciate Golden Oldies Cat Rescue for their dedicated efforts in providing a loving home for senior cats, showcasing a deep commitment to the well-being of these feline companions – a cause I hold dear due to my genuine love for cats.
Francisco Murillo – As I combed through the many non-profits on the platform I was surprised to find Loaves, Fishes, and Computers! One of my design professors, Kevin Cahill, always spoke about the importance of closing the digital divide and ensuring everyone has the necessary technology to learn and grow. He spoke fondly of Loaves, Fishes, and Computers and they were a non-profit that I tried to work with when I was a student in my community service class. Although I wasn’t able to partner with them as a student, I’m happy to raise awareness of the great work they do now.
Nicole Neadeau – My heart is forever with the SPCA Monterey County. My husband adopted a cat on valentines day for our family 15 years ago. Who would have thought such a gesture would impact our lives so much. Our kiddo wanted to name him “spiderman” but we agreed to call him Toby after the spiderman actor. Toby was a love, a joy and a fierce “dog/cat”… he would run out to our cars when we came home just like a doggo! Toby has since passed but he was an integral part of our family and friends and neighbors! I thank SPCA for giving us a gift of love for 15 years. Adopt our furry family friends!
Monica Tovar – Every year I support nonprofits that are near and dear to my heart through MC Gives! It’s very difficult to hear the words, “You have cancer”, but just as difficult to hear someone tell you, “I have cancer”. This is why the many I support include the Salinas Valley Health Foundation to support local cancer patients and their families during these very difficult times in honor of my very missed sister.
Thalia Villalobos – I would like to raise awareness for SPCA Monterey County. The SPCA Monterey County takes in animals facing various challenges, such as unwanted litters, neglect, injuries, and abandonment. Your support directly contributes to the rescue and rehabilitation of these vulnerable animals, giving them a chance at a brighter future.
Lindsey Wrenn – This year I am donating to Gathering for Women, an organization that provides essential resources for housing-insecure women in Monterey County, from basic needs like food and clothing to rental assistance. Their Big Idea is to expand their foodservice program from 5 days to 6 days a week, and help keep these women healthy through preventative care and wellness classes.
